Absent.

Sorry for not posting any new comics in a while.  I have been overwhelmed with the move into a new house and grad school.  It seriously feels like there isn't enough time in the day.  I have been working like a mad man on different video projects for my class and my focus has steered a bit away from comics.  Currently I have only a studio class to deal with, but I have been working non stop to meet my goals for it.  I have a critique coming up here, so hopefully all goes well.

I'm digging the challenge of being back in school, and I will be adjusting my schedule to include working on more comics.  I will be posting new stuff here soon.  I might have to forgo color in order to get new stuff up in a timely manner.

Thanks to everyone who keeps coming by and checking stuff out.

Moving and Grad school

For those of you who follow this regularly, I wanted to let you know that my posting schedule is going to be a bit off for the next couple of weeks.  I just started a masters program and I'm in the process of moving, so I haven't had the time to work on comics.

I hope to be back to a regular schedule in the near future.

Other Mornings

And as bonus, here is another drawing for I did for the longer project I mentioned last week.  I'm in the process of coloring it, but here is a black and white version.  I will be posting the full color version when I complete it.

I will also be adding other drawings soon.

This is also the first drawing I've inked with a brush in some time.  I will be trying to do the same for the comics soon.  For convenience I have been using a sharpie pen to ink, which I'm not thrilled about.  I think the variation in the line work really adds something to the drawings.

Anyway... Enjoy!

The Heat Lightning and Toons

For those of you who regularly check out this blog, I just wanted to mention that both Toons (http://toonsames.com/) in Ames, Iowa and The Heat Lightning (http://theheatlightning.com/) will be running these comics.

I will continue posting new stuff here, but definitely take the time to check out both.  Toons is print, but they post comics in their archives online.

Cheers,

Dan

Late Post Again!

Had a crazy day today.  Too much going on, hence the late posting.

Comic! Plus preview of current project!

As a bonus I'm including a section of the first page of another comic I'm working on.  I'm going to be submitting it to different journals for publication, so I can't post the whole thing.  I was originally going to post the full page, but I don't know how that would go over with editors since most want previously unpublished work.

One day I will post the whole thing.

That being said... Enjoy!

Happy Birthday Abel!

It's my brother Abel's birthday today, so I thought I would post a comic featuring him.  Happy Birthday Abel.

Comics are back!

As a bonus I'm adding the comic I did to grace the cover of my portfolio for my school application.  It's not funny really, but the expressions amuse me, so I thought I would share it.

This is just one of the many things I was catching up on this past week.

Cheers.

No Comics Next Week

I'm not going to be posting any new comics next week.  I'm taking a little break because there are some other projects I have to finish up that I have neglected the past couple of days.

Don't worry.  I will be back on the 19th with more stuff.

Cheers.

Litro Publication

I wanted to take the time out and thank Litro for publishing a comic I did in collaboration with Chris Wiewiora, An Adventure of Buffalo Chris.

They are UK based, so many of you who regularly check my comics won't have access to the print version, but they have also posted it online for your viewing pleasure.

So take the time out to go to their site and read it, as well as all the other fine comics that went into the issue.

Below is a direct link to my comic.

Dino Don is back!

You can't tell because it's a comic, but those dino slippers totally roar with every step!  I know what your thinking, and I want a pair too.  Not much good during a stealth operation, but man would they be awesome any other time.

Candy or Medicine Publication

Volume 14 and 15 of Candy or Medicine is out.  Volume fourteen features a comic by me, but they all feature solid content.

You can order off the website:

Creepy Mustache Comics!

It really was.  I think it was this moment that led to shaving it off.

Dino Don's absence.

I know it's Friday and I usually post the Dino Don, but I haven't gotten around to coloring it yet.  Instead posted one of my usual comics.  Dino Don will be back next week.

Enjoy.

Change in Posting Schedule

So I decided to change up my posting schedule.  I have been working on some new pieces and getting everything together for my grad school application, so my time has been very limited.  I have continued working on comics, but I haven't had as much time to dedicate to coloring them.

So from here on out, I will be posting new personal comics every Monday and Wednesday, and a new Dino Don every Friday.

Cheers.

Sleepy Face

Since I missed yesterday's post, I am adding a bonus comic for the day.

The eternal struggle.

It should be noted that my girlfriend Lauren works nights.  So in case you were wondering, the comic starts at 4:30 PM.

Some old stuff.

I was going through some of my old drawings and came upon this, which I did for a comic with my brother Chaz (http://chazfstan.wordpress.com/author/acebase/).  I thought the drawing was kinda funny so I wanted to share it.

Dino Don

For those of you without kids, or those with kids who don't watch Nick Jr, this comic is a parody of the series Dino Dan.  Dan is a very imaginative boy who interacts with dinosaurs in his modern day environment...  He would definitely benefit from regular therapy.

Anyway, I decided to take the characters from this series and show what would really happen during his interactions.

I will try to have a new installment posted every Friday to round out the week.

Enjoy.

Dance Party

I definitely have the coolest kid ever.  What other child would get up and sing/dance along to the Clash?  Very proud moment for me.

House Hunt

We are currently looking for a home, and it really seems like every home we like is gone before we can even take a look at them.  People should really update their listings online more frequently.

Sick

I spent a couple of weeks sick last month.  Oh, the joy.

This is the first of many comics to come.  I will be posting a new one everyday Monday through Friday, and giving myself the weekend to work on coloring future posts.

Absent

So I know I've been saying I was going to write in this more often, but sometimes I get lazy.  I have all these projects circling around in my head, but I've been having a hard time finding time to get things done.  Some projects have been taking time away from my comics.  On top of that there is the ever present question of direction, that makes me want to give up sometimes.

Oh, excuses excuses.

I can say I'm going to get back on the horse and follow through with everything, but I'm not going to make any promises.  I will do what I can when I can.

I can say this.  I have completed several short comics that I will posting here soon.  I want to reach a certain number completed before I start posting them.  I'm trying to avoid that sense of accomplishment I get from posting in order to keep me going, rather than feeling satisfied in what I've done.  That way I won't think that I deserve a break.

Away for a while

So I now I haven't posted anything in sometime, but it's been with good reason.  I have been focusing on painting recently.  I am going to apply for a masters program and need to build up my work.  I plan on continuing what I started with my watercolor works as well soon, but for right now I'm focusing on oil paintings.

I will be up loading a watercolor of an original character that I'm almost done with here soon, as well as sketches for my paintings.  Hopefully some stills of completed works when I get them done also.

I'm still doing some comics and have done a couple of three panel newspaper style strips of Sam and Ted... the character that adorns the banner at the top.  I plan on sending those out to different online publications.

Candy or Medicine publications!

I sent off two comics to Josh at Candy or Medicine (http://www.candyormedicine.com/) for consideration.  He will be publishing them later this year.  My thanks to him for sure.

Please support him and the publication by picking up a copy (not just the ones with my stuff).  I think it's awesome that there's someone out there doing mini comic anthologies.  I have had the opportunity of reading through several back issues and they are definitely worthwhile collections.

I'm currently working on some other short comics as well as starting to flesh out some longer works.  Hopefully I will be posting some pages or sketches here soon.

Hulk Portrait

I did a quick hulk portrait as a color test for a bigger piece.

I've also been working on portraits of original characters for a comic idea I had a long time ago.  I figured I would put together some samples and a story synopsis to submit for possible publication.  I'm also working on some short comics for literary journal submissions.  I will probably post samples of those in the near future.

I also would like to mention how difficult it is to type with an energetic 1 year sitting on your lap.

Cheers.

Skip the Demon

Round two of the watercolor Christmas presents, finally handed off.
